Commission B Proposes Intensifying Waste Management Education in Markets

Jakarta City Council Commission B Chairman, Nova Harivan Paloh proposed conducting socialization and education for farmers and fruit and vegetable suppliers selling in Jakarta's markets. This step is considered crucial to prevent the practice of bringing and dumping waste in market areas.

Nova added that this socialization can be done simply in the form of an appeal as part of a joint effort to maintain city cleanliness.

Kramat Jati Market Sees 3,012 Tons of Waste Cleared

"I think it's okay because this is just an advisory. It means we're all protecting our city. There's no problem," he said, Thursday (2/26).

During a working meeting between Commission B and Pasar Jaya and the Environmental Agency, it was revealed that some vendors and residents were bringing trash and dumping it in the market area. This situation was deemed to be exacerbating the waste problem.

Nova emphasized that the waste problem at Kramat Jati Main Market, which reaches around 200 tons per day, must be a shared concern. He said the responsibility for maintaining cleanliness lies not only with market management but also with traders, consumers, and business owners, such as restaurant owners.

"We urge all parties, both consumers and restaurant owners and others, to work together to maintain cleanliness in the Kramat Jati Main Market area," he added.

According to him, Pasar Jaya has issued warnings regarding the prohibition of littering, including through CCTV surveillance. However, he emphasized that collective awareness remains key.

"Most importantly, our consumer well-being must be maintained. From odor to comfort to hygiene, these must be considered. This ensures consumers' comfort while merchants remain healthy," he emphasized.
